Information and Characteristics 

If you have had the opportunity to see a dolphin that performs incredible spins in the air and very energetic jumps in the ocean, perhaps it was a spinner dolphin, because no other species beats them in this area. 

It is a small dolphin also known by the name of long-snouted dolphin. There are four subspecies of this dolphin: 
Stenella longirostris longirostris. 
Stenella longirostris orientalis. 
Stenella longirostris centroamericana. 
Stenella longirostris roseiventris. 

 Where Do They Live? Distribution and Habitat 

Stenella longirostris inhabits the tropical, subtropical and temperate areas of the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. Its range of distribution is between the latitudes 40° north and 40° south. 

The subspecies Stenella longirostris longirostris remains in tropical waters of the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. Stenella longirostris orientalis only inhabits the high seas of the tropical eastern Pacific. Stenella longirostris centroamericana inhabits West Central America from Costa Rica to southern Mexico, and Stenella longirostris roseiventris dwells only in Southeast Asia, in areas of the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, reaching as far as northern Australia. 

It is present in a significant number of tropical and subtropical countries. Some of these are Mexico, Taiwan, China, Dominican Republic, Japan, Sri Lanka, Puerto Rico, Belize, Cuba, Singapore, Cape Verde, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru, Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, Australia and the Bahamas. 

The distribution area of the species exceeds 20,000 square kilometers. It is considered a pelagic dolphin that lives in the high sea on the continental shelf.
